Mathematics

The aims of Mathematics teaching are:
  1. To provide mathematical experiences which enable pupils to:
    • discover patterns and relationships
    • develop concepts
    • draw logical conclusions
    • form generalisations
    • express thoughts accurately
  2. To develop in each pupil the basic mathematical knowledge, skills and understanding necessary for daily life and for effective vocational application
  3. To develop in each pupil a positive attitude towards Mathematics, and a continuing interest in it.

STRUCTURE
The Mathematics curriculum is founded on the following mathematical concepts which are indivisibly interrelated:

  • NUMBER
  • MEASUREMENT
  • GEOMETRY
  • ALGEBRA
  • STATISTICS
Through each of these concepts runs the intrinsic purpose of Mathematics – the need to solve mathematical problems in the real world.
