Music programme objectives for Pre-School and Junior School

Pre-School Junior School
Listening and Responding
Essential elements of Rhythm, Pitch, Volume, Tempo, Dynamics, Texture and Form.
Recognises loud/soft and high/low sounds. Moves appropriately to these stimuli. Recognises loud/soft, high/low, fast/slow, long sounds /short sounds.
Singing
Correct vocal technique, breath control, tone, intonation and posture to sing in class, a group and solo.
Joins in action sings; follows melodic line; repertoire includes suitable action songs and finger rhyming songs. Sings in tune and in time with others; repertoire includes suitable unison songs.
Creating
Create and improvise music using rhythm, pitch, texture and tempo.
Imitates short rhythmic and melodic patterns with voice and percussion; Imitates short rhythmic and melodic patterns with voice and percussion; creates answering phrases with voice and percussion.
Playing
Classroom percussion instruments, the recorder family, electric keyboards and orchestral instruments.
Plays suitable untuned percussion instruments in time with the pulse. Plays the first three notes of G major on the descant recorder and the first 5 notes of G major on the glockenspiel; plays in time with the pulse; demonstrates suitable techniques with percussion instruments.
Reading and Notating
Identify the pitch and value of notes and understand music directions of tempo, expression and interpretation in reading and writing; use suitable technology to notate and record music.
Recognises crotchet and quaver rhythms with stems only. Recognises treble clef, stave and the placement of recorder notes learned; experiments with graphic notation. Responds to different music works by action and moving. Begins to be able to discuss the feelings and emotions which certain music evokes. Responds to and discusses different music works, recognising different styles.
Analysing and Appreciating
Identify and analyse a variety of music works, both choral and instrumental, and identify their forms.
