Otago Problem Challenge

Otago Problem Challenge is a mathematics problem-solving competition aimed primarily at Year 7 & 8 pupils. It is organised by the Department of Mathematics at the University of Otago.

Children participating in the competition attempt to answer five questions in 30 minutes on each of five problem sets. A set is completed about once a month starting in April.

Year 7 & 8 pupils who do particularly well overall in the five Problem Challenge  sets during the year, gaining a score of 20 or more, are invited to enter a final multi-choice competition in early November. The Final Challenge consists of 15 multiple-choice questions, with five options per question, together with five questions which require explicit answers. The problems are similar in style to the usual Problem Challenge questions but are generally of a standard comparable to question 5 on the Problem Challenge sets or harder.

Full details of the competition can be found here.
